Orange’s high altitude in tune with pinot noir

Sassy 2013 Orange Pinot Noir, $30 4.5 STARS

TODAY'S focus is on the emerging Orange Region, the boundary of which is defined as 600 metres above sea level and upwards.

That suits pinot noir and this one comes from the Sassy vineyard at 900 metres. The wine is light bodied cherry red, has scents of violets and displays spicy raspberry flavour on the front palate. glacé cherry, spearmint, cloves and toasty oak show on the middle palate and the finish has earthy tannins.

Get it on sassywines.com.au and at the cellar door on the Eastern Heritage Trail at Orange.

Rob and Fliss Coles are experience vignerons, establishing a vineyard at Cowra 16 years ago, then moving to Orange to plant their 6.2-hectare arneis, pinot noir, riesling, pinot gris, shiraz and petit verdot vineyard in 2005.
